Father's Day is this coming weekend, which means it's time to bone up on your macaroni art skills or run to the store for a "World's Best Dad" mug. Or, you could celebrate the occasion by spending time with dad. An easy way to do this is to go to the movies, especially because there's a great selection of films now playing that are bound to appeal to dads everywhere. Whether your dad is a film buff, a comic book nerd, a comedy lover or a thrill seeker, there's something in theatres to please every dad (and every kid), and we've got some picks for you to help make your Father's Day a guaranteed good time.

Take your dad to see:

Solo: A Star Wars Story

solo: a star wars story

This Star Wars spin-off tells the story of a young Han Solo, here played by Alden Ehrenreich, and it gives us some very welcomed insight into one of our all-time favourite characters. In the film, we see how Han first met his sidekick Chewbacca, and follow this duo on an adventure into the criminal underworld where they also meet up with Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), years before Han joins the rebellion. It's a fun and light-hearted journey that gives us just enough Star Wars while still keeping the story fresh. Especially if your dad is a fan of the franchise, this is an awesome and nostalgic movie to take him to this weekend.

Hotel Artemis

This dystopian thriller features an all-star cast including Jodie Foster, Jeff Goldblum,Sterling K. Brown, Sofia Boutella, Zachary Quinto, and even more of our favourite actors. The film takes place in a riot-ton, near-future Los Angeles where a nurse (Jodie Foster) runs a secret, members-only emergency room for criminals. The film is darkly funny, thrilling, action-packed and wholly original, so if you want something to watch with dad on Father's Day, this movie checks all the boxes.

See with your dad friends:

Deadpool 2

After the family festivities are over, it'd be fun to head to the theatre with your fellow dads and watch Deadpool 2. Here Ryan Reynolds returns as the merc with a mouth, the most foul superhero to ever hit the big screen, and he's facing off against a villain named Cable (Josh Brolin) who has come from the future. Jam-packed with more pop-culture references than you could possibly catch in one viewing, Deadpool 2 is somehow even funnier than the first, and it's a great movie to see with the guys.

A comedy that is about male friendship, Tag would be the perfect movie to see with your old pals as you celebrate fatherhood. Here we follow the crazy true story of a group of men (played by Jon Hamm, Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress and Jeremy Renner) who have been playing the same game of tag for thirty years. While the premise sounds absurd, what it boils down to is a group of friends who are clinging onto their friendship even as their lives take different directions. It's a funny and heart-warming story that many dads could relate to.

Take your kids to:

Incredibles 2

No matter how old your kids are, Incredibles 2 is the perfect movie to take them to on Father's Day. This sequel takes place right after the first one, and it's crazy to think that it has already been fourteen years since we first met this superhero family. This time, Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) has been recruited to publicly save the world, meaning that Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) must stay home with the kids, including their baby Jack-Jack who is starting to develop powers of his own. Disney and Pixar films are always guaranteed family fun, and this one is specifically about fatherhood, making it an incredible choice to watch on Father's Day.
