The Fall Guy Sets A New Guinness World Record In Car Stunt Featurette

May starts with a bang as two of the biggest stars from last year&rsquo;s infamous &lsquo;Barbenheimer&rsquo; join forces in the inspired action rom-com, The Fall Guy. This brand new Hollywood blockbuster is a love letter to stunt work, and it features hilarious performances from everyone&rsquo;s favourite Ken, Ryan Gosling, and the forever charming Emily Blunt. Many highly anticipated sequels and prequels are also coming out this month as the following weekend brings the Planet of the Apes back to the big screen after eight years. Set 300 years post Caesar, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be the epic continuation of this historic franchise. Things don&rsquo;t stop there as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga also speeds into theatres towards the end of the month. It&rsquo;s hard to believe it&rsquo;s been almost a decade since Charlize Theron originated Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road. Now, Anya Taylor-Joy will take over the role in this unmissable origin story, which also stars an unrecognizable Chris Hemsworth. Keeping the party going that same weekend is Hit Man. This steamy and surprisingly comedic thriller sees Glen Powell return to theatres in a film that blew audiences during its festival circuit last year. &nbsp;
Looking for a movie the entire family will enjoy? From imaginary friends to everyone&rsquo;s favourite lasagna-loving, Monday-hating cat, May has some fantastic choices for audiences of all ages. IF is a live-action/3D-animated comedy from the mind of John Krasinski that finds Ryan Reynolds teaming up with a young girl who develops the ability to see people&rsquo;s imaginary friends. Audiences can also look forward to The Garfield Movie, a brand-new animated adventure where Garfield must work with his long-lost father to pull off the ultimate heist.

The horror genre has been unstoppable this year, and the scares are only getting bigger from here. Kicking off the month is Tarot, a supernatural horror movie based on a cult-classic thriller novel from the early 90s, Horrorscope. The film follows a group of college friends who organize a night of Tarot readings. In a not-so-shocking turn of events, things become deadly when they unknowingly violate the sacred rule of using Tarot Cards&ndash; never use someone else&rsquo;s deck. Now haunted by a menacing spirit they accidentally unleashed, these friends must race against death to escape their foretold fates. Tarot marks the feature directorial debut of Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, who also co-wrote the script with Nicholas Adams, the author of the film&rsquo;s source material.&nbsp;

If horror isn&rsquo;t your thing, that&rsquo;s okay! From the man behind the John Wick franchise (Leitch), The Fall Guy also comes out on the first weekend of May and will provide all the thrills without any of the fright. In this loose adaptation of a 1980s TV series, Gosling and Blunt star as stunt performer Colt Seavers and camera operator Jody Moreno&ndash; an ex-couple who must put aside their history and remain professional while working on set for Moreno&rsquo;s directorial debut. Seavers is a stunt actor for one of the biggest action stars in the world, Tom Ryder (Taylor-Johnson), but is thrust out of his Hollywood comfort zone when a conspiracy unravels with Ryder smack in the centre. Audiences who caught the film&rsquo;s world premiere at SXSW earlier this year praised the movie for its comedy, romance, and heart-pounding action. Make sure to see it on the largest screen possible!

Less than a week later, one of the longest-running movie franchises in cinema history is returning to theatres with its 10th feature film installment, spanning 55 years. The beloved reboot trilogy, which started in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes, introduced audiences to Caesar. Over three films, we watched this hyper-intelligent chimpanzee grow from a baby into a mature leader fighting for peace between all humans and apes. Nearly 300 years after Caesar&rsquo;s death, the virus responsible for wiping out most of the population and increasing ape intelligence has mutated. Humans have become primitive and mute, much like they were depicted in the original 1968 film. When Proximus Caesar (Durand), the new Ape King, begins twisting Caesar&rsquo;s teachings to gain more power, a Chimpanzee hunter named Noa (Teague) sets out on a harrowing journey with a young human (Allan) that will change the fate of the entire planet.

John Krasinski, best known as Jim Halpert from The Office (U.S.) and the filmmaker behind the A Quiet Place series, continues to prove his imagination is limitless. His latest movie, IF (short for imaginary friend), is a heartwarming love letter to anyone who still has their inner child and a wild imagination. Like Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Krasinski uses a mixture of live-action and animated characters to realize this larger-than-life world fully. Everyone has had an imaginary friend at one point or another, and IF explores what happens to those friends when we forget them. When a young girl named Bea (Fleming) discovers she can see other people&rsquo;s IFs, she teams up with her neighbour, Cal (Reynolds), who shares the same ability, to help IFs find new kids; otherwise, they&rsquo;ll disappear forever. If the live-action cast isn&rsquo;t exciting enough, IF also features the voices of actors like Steve Carell, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Maya Rudolph, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Blake Lively, Bradley Cooper, and George Clooney.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 is the haunting first installment in a trilogy of home invasion horror movies, with Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 expected to be released later this year. All three parts were filmed back-to-back in Bratislava, Slovakia and are a collective reimagining of the terrifying 2008 film of the same name. The original movie starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple fighting off masked intruders from their remote summer home. This time, a girl named Maya (Petsch) and her longtime boyfriend, Ryan (Gutierrez), decide to drive across Canada to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. On their way to a fresh start, their car breaks down, forcing them to stay overnight in an Airbnb, far from help. When three psychotic strangers in nightmarish masks show up at their doorstep, the couple must work together to escape before they&rsquo;re killed.

It&rsquo;s time for Mad Max fans to start their engines! Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga sees George Miller return to the director&rsquo;s chair after knocking the epic Mad Max: Fury Road out of the park in 2015. While Mad Max has been around since 1979, Miller surprised fans when he introduced a completely original character that proved far more popular than the titular one. Initially portrayed by Charlize Theron, Furiosa was an officer who turned against her master to free his five enslaved wives. After the success of Fury Road, many wondered how Furiosa became the determined anti-hero depicted in the movie, to which Miller revealed he&rsquo;d already written a script that explores her origin story. This is that story&hellip; Set 20 years or so before the events of Fury Road, a young Furiosa (Taylor-Joy) is kidnapped from her family at the Green Place of Many Mothers by the Warlord Dementus to be in his horde of bikers. She will devote the rest of her life to finding her way home.

After his recent rom-com hit, Anyone But You, Glen Powell is back on the big screen but in a very different way. From acclaimed director Richard Linklater (Boyhood, Dazed and Confused), Hit Man is a brilliant noir thriller and one of the best movies of the year. Powell and Linklater co-wrote the script, and, despite the title, the film follows an average philosophy professor named Gary Johnson (Powell). Busy taking care of his cats and pupils, Gary has never experienced the thrilling side of life. To fix this, he volunteers to help the police with surveillance during sting operations, but when the undercover hitman fails to arrive for a job, Gary decides to take his place. Gary continues to work as a fake hitman, noticing the exciting changes coinciding with his life. However, things get complicated when Gary begins falling for Madison (Ajorna), a beautiful, down-on-her-luck woman who hires him to murder her husband. Hit Man premiered at last year&rsquo;s Venice International Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival, where it received universal praise for its dynamically dark story, outstanding performances, and constant laughs.

2024 has been a great year for movie lovers, and plenty more imaginative, adventure-filled, big-budget popcorn flicks are coming to Cineplex theatres this month.

Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace all return alongside the original busters, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson. Another empire also rises to power this month in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which finds Rebecca Hall and Dan Stevens journeying back underneath the planet to unite the two Kaijus so they can save their world and ours from foreboding peril. 
If you&rsquo;re looking for something more grounded, we&rsquo;ve got you covered as well! Zach Braff, Evelyne Brochu, and Vanessa Hudgens star in the romantic comedy French Girl. The film follows a hopeless romantic stuck in a love triangle with his girlfriend and her ex/potential new boss. The Queen of My Dreams and One Life are two films that premiered last year at TIFF to critic and audience acclaim and are both making their way into theatres this month. Lastly, for all the adrenaline fiends, the next Blumhouse horror hit, Imaginary, comes out along with a new romantic thriller from A24 starring Kristen Stewart, Love Lies Bleeding.

Prophecies, Sword Fights, Sandworms! Oh my! If there is any movie to see in theatres this month, it&rsquo;s Dune: Part Two. The film is already being described as one of the best second instalments of all time, along with The Dark Knight and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Shot entirely for IMAX, Dune: Part Two demands to be seen on the largest screen possible. It will easily be one of the best moviegoing experiences of the year. 
While Part One focused heavily on establishing the complex intergalactic world of politics and spice trade created by author Frank Herbert, Part Two drops the audience directly into the action. The sequel picks up right after the first as Paul (Chalamet) and his mother, Lady Jessica (Ferguson), are hiding amongst the Fremen in the deserts of Arrakis, spreading the legend of The Messiah. The Harkonnens have regained control of spice production, and Paul must earn the trust of the Fremen to exact his revenge on those who destroyed his family. Burdened with visions of a devastating war, Paul fears accepting his destiny, unsure if he will prevent the war or be its cause.

To make matters worse, her potential new boss is a famous television chef who is also her ex. It&rsquo;s hard to compete with that, but Gordon isn&rsquo;t going down without a fight, and true love always wins in the end&hellip; right?

With a unique title like The American Society of Magical Negroes, this film has already garnered a lot of attention outside of Hollywood, mainly because first-time director/writer Kobi Libii developed it while participating in the Sundance Screenwriters and Directors Lab. It showed such promise that the script received funding and immediately went into production. The satirical comedy is a play on the stereotypical depiction of a supporting Black character who always comes to aid the white protagonist. It follows Aren, a young man ushered into a secret, magical society of Black people whose sole purpose is to make white people happy.

Set in the 1980s during the exercise craze, Love Lies Bleeding is about Lou (Stewart), a gym manager who mostly keeps to herself until she meets Jackie (O&rsquo;Brian) and falls madly in love with her. Jackie is an ambitious bodybuilder making her way through Las Vegas to get to a bodybuilding competition. What Jackie doesn&rsquo;t know is how connected Lou&rsquo;s family is to the criminal underground, and as the two get closer, they find themselves pulled deeper into a world of crime and violence.

The film takes place during critical moments in Sir Nicholas Winton&rsquo;s life, who, at the age of 29, set out to save as many Jewish children as he could from being taken to concentration camps in German-occupied Czechoslovakia. Fifty years later, Winton has never been able to shake the feeling that he could have done more until he&rsquo;s finally reunited with those he saved. One Life received universal praise after its world premiere last year at TIFF and will be one of the most moving films you&rsquo;ll see all year.

Adapted from Mirza&rsquo;s original stage production and 2012 short film of the same name, The Queen of My Dreams follows Azra (Kaur), who struggles to connect with her parents after coming out. Things in her family escalate after her father (Haq) passes away unexpectedly.

This latest film marks the 38th time Godzilla has appeared on screen and the 13th time for King Kong. The trailer alone promises significant upgrades for Godzilla and Kong, raising the stakes in every scene.

The three biggest winners of the night, and the only movies to take home multiple awards, were Oppenheimer, Poor Things, and The Zone of Interest. Oppenheimer took home seven awards out of 13 nominations, including winning the big three. Poor Things earned an impressive four awards, while The Zone of Interest walked away with two.&nbsp;&nbsp;
This year's ceremony saw a lot of more than deserving talent recognized for the first time, such as Christopher Nolan, acclaimed director of The Dark Knight Trilogy and Inception, who finally won Directing. While most knew this award was going to Nolan before the ceremony started, seeing him accept the trophy was significant and satisfying. His speech was quite moving as he noted the 100-year history of movie-making and how much it means to him to have played a meaningful part in it. Oppenheimer also earned Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr their first Academy Awards for Actor in a Leading Role and Actor in a Supporting Role, respectively.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Poor Things gave us the night's biggest surprise, with Emma Stone winning her second Actress in a Leading Role award in less than a decade. The actress and most audience members were shocked when Stone's name was announced as it was expected to go to Lily Gladstone for Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. Unfortunately, that film received zero awards, and neither did Bradley Cooper's Maestro. Stone also gave an authentic and heartfelt acceptance speech, taking a special moment to acknowledge the cast and crew who helped bring the film to life.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Even though the film is mainly in German, The Zone of Interest comes from the United Kingdom and marks the country's first Oscar win for International Feature Film. Additionally, the film received the award for Sound, which makes sense, given how integral sound is to the film. Also in the crafts categories, Godzilla: Minus One earned the infamous monster his first Oscar for Visual Effects.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Plenty of other films got love from The Academy&reg;, including American Fiction, which won writer-director Cord Jefferson an Oscar for Writing (Adapted Screenplay). While many wanted to see Greta Gerwig get this award, seeing American Fiction recognized was just as rewarding, especially with Jefferson's powerful speech about investing in original talent and stories.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Anatomy of a Fall earned writing partners Justine Triet and Arthur Harare their first Oscar for Writing (Original Screenplay) and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, who kicked off the night when she scored the Actress in a Supporting Role award for her powerful performance in The Holdovers. While he wasn't in attendance, Wes Anderson won his first Oscar for Live Action Short Film for directing The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Hayao Miyazaki was also absent from this year's ceremony and wasn't there to accept his second Animated Feature Film Oscar for The Boy and the Heron. Another two-time Oscar winner to come out of the night was Composer Ludwig G&ouml;ransson. G&ouml;ransson previously won in 2018 for his Black Panther score and earned his second for Oppenheimer. Barbie didn't attain nearly as many awards as people hoped, but it won Billie Eilish her second Oscar for Music (Original Song). She had previously won for No Time To Die.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Barbie should also be congratulated for stealing the night with Ryan Gosling's show-stopping and very pink performance of "I'm Just Ken." The multi-talented star was joined on stage by his fellow Ken actors Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Scott Evans, and Ncuti Gatwa, along with a surprise appearance from Slash. What transpired was a sensational performance that had everyone howling almost as much as they did when John Cena reluctantly walked on stage in his birthday suit to present the award for Costume Design.&nbsp;&nbsp;

As revealed in the clip, the first attempt at the roll didn't quite go to plan, so Gosling's stunt double, Ryan Holladay, suited up for another try. While the previous world record for a cannon roll was 7 rolls, Holladay ended up completing eight and a half. &nbsp;
